ŠKODA JS Becomes the First Central European Company to Obtain One of the Most Demanding Certifications in the Nuclear Industry – ASME

A leading European manufacturer of equipment for the nuclear power industry and a member of the ČEZ Group – ŠKODA JS a.s., has successfully completed an audit by the American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME) this spring. The company is currently the only manufacturing firm in Central and Eastern Europe to hold these certifications for nuclear applications. This achievement enables ŠKODA JS to supply its equipment for nuclear power plant primary circuits worldwide to final (IPC) contractors requiring ASME certification.

Obtaining ASME certification ranks among the most demanding processes in the nuclear industry. ŠKODA JS has now received the official certificates (see attached photo) and is listed on the ASME website among certified suppliers for nuclear applications. Equipment manufactured for nuclear power plant primary systems will now bear the ASME certification stamp, clearly distinguishing the company in terms of quality from many other nuclear suppliers.   

„This certification will significantly facilitate our involvement in global supply chains for nuclear equipment. It also applies to our potential deliveries for the new nuclear unit at Dukovany Nuclear Power Plant (for the Korean company KHNP) as well as for small modular reactors (SMRs), where we cooperate with Rolls-Royce,” said Karel Bednář, CEO of ŠKODA JS a.s., highlighting the importance of the certification for the company.

„We are now authorized to manufacture and supply nuclear pressure equipment, including metallic materials for nuclear power plants, in compliance with ASME codes,” added Lukáš Řežáb, Director of the Quality Management Division at ŠKODA JS. Together with his team, he completed approximately two years of preparation followed by a demanding five-day audit this spring. „This confirms the high level of our company’s quality management system,” he concluded.
