Škoda JS and Calogena announce a strategic partnership supporting the development of a small modular reactor for low-carbon district heating
6. 11. 2025
This partnership confirms the common desire to decarbonize urban heat in Europe through proven, safe, and competitive nuclear technology.
The agreement covers the development of key equipment for the primary circuit of the CAL30. Škoda JS is a recognized manufacturer of reactor vessels and internals for numerous pressurized water reactors across Europe, including in most VVER440 and VVER1000 as well as for the EPR in HPC.
Calogena is already involved in five projects in France and Finland. In August 2025, Calogena announced the launch of studies for the implementation of a CAL30 module at the Cadarache (Bouches-du-Rhône, France) research centre of the CEA.

František Krček, Chief Executive Officer of Škoda JS said: " Škoda JS is proud to participate in the development of the CAL30 small modular reactor, reinforcing our commitment to low-carbon energy solutions. We have full confidence that Calogena’s innovative SMR technology will successfully enter the market and make a significant impact on the decarbonization of urban heating in Europe in the near future."
Julien Dereux, Chief Executive Officer of Calogena, added: " We are delighted to deepen our collaboration with Škoda JS, a renowned leader in nuclear technology. This partnership strengthens our capacity to deliver a reliable and cost-effective SMR solution to European customers, addressing the urgent need for carbon-free urban heating and contributing to the energy transition.“
